This lights up soooo many of my favorite interests! Thank you for this! Glad you've got that diagnosis to move forward with.
Also the underlying conversation of women being taught to attend to their emotional state versus men being taught to ignore their emotional state kept creeping up on the sides of this while reading. Men's hormones are constantly affecting their bodies and moods, but because they've likely been taught since birth to ignore most emotions they experience, men might not immediately recognize that their emotions and hormonal changes are linked. So women directly expressing that their bodies are assaulted by hormones, emotions, and physical pain in relation to the never-ending menstrual cycle (on top of any other ailments women may have or develop) may lead to women sounding whiny and like they can't hack it in the kitchen compared to their male counterparts. Whereas, the reality is, everyone in a kitchen is being absolutely blasted by their hormonal states and, based on what I know of the memes, undernourishing their brains and bodies in extremes. Women are just the ones talking about it.
Yes!! This is such a good comment, THANK YOU. And women’s bodies’ sensitivity to chronic, extreme malnourishment is just the canary in the coal mine for an industry that doesn’t prioritize longevity or quality of life for those in it. Everyone feels it, but not everyone is awake to it, until something inevitably breaks.
I imagine a future where we can look back at this era and think, “Wow, how archaic, we had no idea how to take care of ourselves, and we were really suffering, thank goodness we know better now!!” For a lot of physical industries, not just kitchens.
