Do you work in the service industry?
Then we’re probably already friends.
I’m a culinary grad (rest in peace, LCB) turned lifelong line cook, and I thought for a very long time that my calling was to be in the kitchen. I never felt more alive than when I was working behind the line, proving my worth with the big boys.
As I evolved alongside the industry, I realized that my body and mental health were really struggling to keep up with my passion. I stopped working the line every night, but never stepped out of the industry. Instead, I used my free time to write about it, covering local stories in my community and then for national publications at large.
I love restaurants, and the people who work in them. And I love workers in other lines service - barbers, tattoo artists, you name it. I’ve since realized my truest passion is helping service workers thrive in their environments.
You can find my opinions on the state of the industry and its ever-evolving dynamics here at The Postshift, as well as deep dives into current topics (like delivery driving and the post-pandemic landscape) and in-depth looks at some of the most vibrant leaders and workers in the industry.
I really give a shit, so join me on your smoke break, pull up a milk crate, get active in the comments section, and let’s help the service industry thrive.
Cheers,
Also — I have a paywall behind my Friday chisme (my hot gossip posts, which are way more informal) so that I can make sure I’m giving the tea only to those who actually want to hear it. If that’s you, send me a DM! You don’t have to pay! In this economy?! Just ask me.
If you’re someone who has a comfortable salary and would like to support my writing, hell yeah! Thank you!! 🫡🍾
